Embodydance Executive Committee

As was agreed upon by consensus at the November 15, 2009 Community Meeting, Embodydance has formed a 7-member Executive Committee (EC), which includes the General Manager (GM). These changes are the result of work done subsequent to the Embodydance Visioning meeting last summer, in which it became clear to the Community that a more organized structure is needed to support the facilitators in their creative work and to ensure that the business of Embodydance runs smoothly, efficiently and in a timely fashion.

The EC serves as a committed and consistent microcosm of the Embodydance Community, meeting monthly and operating in a fully transparent manner. The EC is entrusted by the Community to set the agenda for Community Meetings and handle much of the business and decision-making necessary for the operation of Embodydance. The EC, including the GM, are responsible for the seamless running of Embodydance.

Candidates for the EC (In Alphabetical Order)

The following Embodydance Community members have volunteered to serve the Community by running for a position on the EC. The statements accompanying their images are directly from their submission forms. There are 5 open seats and 6 candidates. As a reminder, the ideal make-up of the 7-member EC is for there to be at least one Facilitator, at least one Coordinator, one member of the Board of Directors and the General Manager. This is an ideal and not a requirement. The election runs from January 23 through February 20, 2011. To read a detailed explanation of the election process and the responsibilities of EC members, see this link. Please make a considered choice for those candidates who you think will offer the most balanced makeup of the EC. You may only vote for 5 positions, and only once from your computer. The voting is being conducted at Survey Monkey. Click here to cast your votes, and thanks for co-creating our community.

why: I am delighted to run for the Executive Committee (EC) of Embodydance (ED) because I am both passionate and experienced with assisting an organization to move smoothly through major transitions. I care deeply about the communication between the community members and the EC. I look forward to expanding on the great work that has already been done in ensuring that you have a strong voice with the EC and in ED. The other reason I am running is I love being involved with an organization when it is going from the chaos of change toward new policies, procedures, and potentials. There are still many areas within the structure of our organization that need attention due to the changes we have been going through and I am excited to be a part of creating our new systems.

skills: I have been involved at a core level with many organizations starting in high school and through every phase of my life. I have run my own business for more than 20 years and bring that understanding to the roundtable. Since coming to Santa Fe I have been a facilitator and Board Member of The Celebration and am currently on the Board of Directors of ED. I have the ability to deeply listen to what is being asked by a community that is in a change process and to be an advocate for them. I have many organizational skills due to my experience and have a natural talent to see the big picture and set up the structures to help that picture become reality.

Therefore, I would like to be a part of the decision making process and where Embodydance might/will be going. I would like to share in the responsibility of keeping it alive and helping it thrive. It is my profound desire to bring to ourselves and our community an Embodydance that serves our soul in the deepest way.

skills: Most importantly, I bring my deep commitment to Embodydance and my open and loving Heart. I also bring my intelligence, integrity, intuition, and my ability to see things from multiple perspectives.I am naturally authentic and honest, and I believe that my creativity, willingness and abilities will work well with the EC team.

why: The dance is important to me. My hopes by becoming part of the Committee are that I’ll be able to bring new points of view and positive energy into the decision making process. I have the capacity to help find directions and help resolve or unblock situations for the greater good by overwriting my personal preferences. I have the desire to be involved in my community in an active way and doing service in that form is calling me at this time.

skills: As a creative director for many years, and currently a teacher in private practice, I actively learned to listen, brainstorm, and participate in finding creative solutions to challenging situations. Over the years I developed a sense for practicality and clarity with finances as well as with legal issues. My capacity to see the many sides of most situations often time helps other reach a win-win solution.

why: I have been a member of the EC for a year and it has been a pleasure to serve Embodydance. I view this form of dance as a medicine circle, and such circles are deeply needed to maintain the health of the individual and the community, especially during times of great transition like our World is going through.

skills: My understanding of dance as medicine comes from years of traveling and participating in a variety of dances around the world, from Barefoot Boogies, Five Rhythms dances and indigenous village dance rituals. In my capacity as the founder of Gypsie Nation (www.gypsienation.com), I learned a great deal about the healing power, and the community-building potential, of ecstatic-type dances. Alongside my dance experience, I bring numerous skills stemming from a long life as a creative entrepreneur (pokibio.blogspot.com).

Alec
Currently:
Embodydance Facilitator
Alec Walling
why: I believe that I can serve the dance community by being open to what the community might express to the committee as to what is needed for us to thrive as a group of like minded dancers.

skills: I feel that I can listen and that I have a fairly open mind. I have been a dancer for about six years and a facilitator for over a year and a half.
